- Dinah release imminent
The public release of Dinah (the code used to run CyberArmy's website) is nearly ready! The release will support two licenses: a contributor's license for those wishing to submit patches and modules, based on the Apache Contributor's License, and a distribution license based on the BSD license for those who wish to use parts of Dinah for their own sites.
- zZine
The previous zZine release contained an article which contained several innacuracies. In response, SAS exec staff has agreed to develop a publication protocol to establish guidelines for future releases, as well as to remove the article.
- Cyberarmy.com, redux
Ret. Founder Pengo contacted snarkles about getting involved again in CA and offered his help in acquiring the cyberarmy.com domain name. Ikioi took it upon himself to initiate a fundraiser within the community to try and collect the necessary funds to purchase the domain. Unfortunately, negotiations between CA.net and Pengo fell through, and the community was not able to raise the $1500 asking price for the domain. The current status of the cyberarmy.com domain is unknown, but the cyberarmy.net domain remains unaffected due to its protection under ISPAN.
- "Tech News" postings
knoledgesponge has proposed appointing a group within CA to handle posting of security advisories and tech news headlines, in order to help increase awareness of current topics in IT among the CyberArmy community. Discussion is still underway about this idea.
- Staff identification
Based on the consensus among members in a recent poll, no new staff identification will be made beyond what already exists. New users and others who may be unclear on who actually acts as staff in CyberArmy can refer to the Staff and Administration page in the About section.
- Rank definition
A couple stabs have been taken at adding "perks" to the various ranking levels to add more value to the ranking system. The main issue is in selecting privileges that are both useful to users but still balance security and privacy concerns.
- Safari books
Research has been performed into "corporate" pricing for O'Reilly's Safari Books that could possibly be worked into a package offered to CyberArmy users for a modest fee per year. The main issue is that member participation would need to be high, otherwise the costs would be prohibitive.
- CA pastebot
Gen Asmodai is nearly finished with a Lisp-based pastebot which can provide IRC-based notifications of new code submissions, as well as syntax highlighting for several different languages.
- General ToTaL
General ToTaL is back on staff, and is heading up development of the new challenges.
