S: What about if every forum supervised by FH (H&S Forum, Public Forum and all specialized forums) has a little checkbox labeled "contact FH". So if you write a threat and check this box (same as "bold?") the link or a copy is send to the Forum Helpers Forum (fh-staff). This would increase the efficiency of use since we sometimes overlook posts. Yes we are only humans as well.
R: Problem with this is that most people don?t really know what FH is. Chances are that there will likely be more ?false? calls than legitimate ones.
S: On the message forum, I was thinking we could add a new topic BBcode for those messages that aren't very long, but too long for just the topic. So that when you hover over the link to the message, it's alt text would pop up the body of the message (only the body, no signatures). Say you post a message, topic: "Important CA-SAS Update: [snip]" (just using [snip] as an example BBcode possibility for it) ...when you hover over it, it would display the body of the message. This being said, when posting the message, if the [snip] tag is used in the topic, a maxlength would need to be enforced, or the [snip] tag won't be allowed. What do you think? This is just a suggestion for ease of browsing I suppose, but I think it might add a nice functionality to Fong.
R: If he's talking about what I think he is... It would just be a matter of making forum posts like this:
Post Title Goes Here
The title attribute adds a "tool tips" kind of thing to links, which causes a box to pop-up, same as it would when you hover your mouse over your PC clock or whatever. I just am not sure how many people would actually use this functionality. I know I always like to look at the posts themselves because then I get formatting, host info, etc.
S: New Forum Idea: IRC Forum - People can submit questions about different IRC's, about our CAUnreal IRC, and about different services and stuff. Would also be a good place to post links about updates and security issues.
R: It?s been suggested that the Programming, and/or the Help and Support forum(s) are for this purpose.
S: I just noticed that the moderators tasked with cleaning the recruitment forum are doing a pretty senseless job. Everything older than 1 or 2 pages is outdated anyway and gets deleted. So I was wondering if it wouldn't be possible to set and autodelete for everything that doesn't fit on let say the second page anymore.
R:The recruitment forum was a lot worse before. As of now the moderators are doing their bit by keeping it clean, and at it?s current level. Right now the implementation of this suggestion is being checked on.
S: If CA wants to get together (which they should) put together a statement and then release it and link in on every forum may also help, and whoever wants to be involved in writing it can...would be interesting.
R: It?s been suggested that the ?Forum Guidelines? cover this.
S: Would it be possible to create an option for the Office so that you can prevent certain forums from showing up when you're at /forum?
R: This one has been suggested before. The current status of it is unknown.
S: Would it assist and maybe even deter people on the public forum if there was a Link on the MOTD linking directly to thew 'ADD A SITE'
http://library.red-division.org/index.php?PHPSESSID=d75ddcc98f63f70241fcc7fd06002b25&show=add&PID=
form on Red-Lib. It may lower that type of traffic on the forums.
R: This is going to be setup, using this link: http://library.red-division.org/index.php?show=add
cMS Feedback
S: In the cMS it would be beneficial if we could have an option to send messages to our brigade members with out having to copy and paste with the semicolon to separate names. If it is possible I believe that we should be able to make groups of people, with just a click of a button it would automatically put the names in the send to box. For instance I put in a group everyone from the SPD in CIA so when I click the button to send to them I don?t have to type in there names.
R: This one has been suggested before, and will likely be addressed in the future.
Brigade Feedback
S: I have found that even though I check my join queue pretty much every time I'm on... Every now and then I forget. And I was wondering if there could be a notification via cMS of each new member attempting to join (or has joined if it's not restricted).
R: Something of this nature is coming in the next Dinah release.
Office Feedback
S: I have seen in the past people logging into ca office then going right onto the forums (without seeing they have been promoted) Is there any way of putting something where ?NO new messages? says ?congratz you have made Kernel It may only be for looks but could be a good idea.
R: This one seems rather unfounded. As the individual logs in he/she sees their rank. If they?re on the forum, their rank is at the top of the page (?logged in as). Also if they post, they see their rank.
S: If we could keep the 5 most recent digests in ?My Office? it would be much easier to find them. The thing to debate is do we link them to the forum post or to the zZine article.
R: Right now the digests are being added to the ?Announcements? section in ?My Office?. No definite word about how this one was handled, but it?ll likely continue the way it is.
Other Feedback
S: I had a thought last night. Only Ker+ is on staff right, so staff only has 1 point of view. I thought about a council of CA members, starting from 2ndLt to Ker, to give a wider view on things to staff. This way, staff will get all point of views from all ranks. They will get the opinions of Lt's, Majors etc... not only the opinions of Ker+
R: It?s been suggested that this is one of the purposes for the rank(s) forums, to solicit information and generate discussion.
S: I posted an -nt- message on a forum the other day and I clicked it by accident and I saw that my logo was still there. It's a good thing the body's get replaced with [nt] but what about the logos? If you'd remove them as well it'd save lots of bandwidth.
R: Debate rages on this one. It seems that the amount of bandwidth being recovered by this would be minimal. It?s unlikely anything will come of this anytime soon.
S: If you're X/O of a group and also C/O of one of its subgroups, only your C/O position is displayed in your finger profile. It would be nice to have both positions listed.
R: This one has been suggested before. No action as of yet and not likely to be actioned anytime soon.
S: I've been informed that you can?t add BBcode inside [c0de] tags. It would be useful if you could, so you could do something like:
[c0de]
this is how [bold] tags work
[bold]bold text[/bold]
[/c0de]
R: The purpose of BBcode is to remove all formatting. At least that?s what was posted in reply to this.
S: I was thinking, maybe it would be easy to display the server time on all the forum pages, like "logged in as Joe Blow". It would be a little easier to perform some duties, for morale & moderation, as we monitor the forums. For example, in our DIRT group, we give out accurate information about sensitive postings etc. with a time label. But usually it's like 11:34am EST (this happened) -nt- 17:28 CET (this was replied) -nt- it's hard to coordinate things. If we would have an easy view of the server time we would be able to coordinate everything on that, and most of all we would be able to compare the current server time with the time a post was made. This simple alteration would be very useful, especially in my line of work.
R: This one is coming up in the next Dinah release.
S: Would it be a good idea to have everyone submit their birthday, and have all birthdays show up in the CA news section. Just for feel good factor more than anything. The news item would be like to a post on the lounge or something.
R: This has been recommended NOT to be implemented. Info such as DOB and the like is personal info that at the moment CA has no true use for (if we did then there would likely be restrictions put on minors), plus there?s a lot of legal mumbo jumbo that has to accompany these things. If someone wants to post their own birthday on the CA lounge, this is more than acceptable.
S: I heard something about signatures taking too much space. There's an easy solution for that. Make a separate file for every user (like the profile) that contains the code for the signature. Than call it at the forums. It'll save the page locally and therefore when it is requested again it will reload locally. At first sight you think it'll take a lot of HD space, but in the end it'll be worth it.
R: Good idea. This one is being looked at currently.
S: Can we have the name of the poster in the forum logs? Can we have ALL the deleted posts in the forum logs?
R: This one is being investigated. Although the deleted posts maybe a little controversial, the suggestion has some merit.
S: I would like to have a website or something of the kind that can take each members rank and zipcode (or country outside of the US) and then put a dot on a map where that person is (can remain anonymous if so wish). I believe that this was once a project but faded out of existence, a post in the CA members discussion forum revealed some interest.
R: Currently the former CA map project is dead. However one of the staff has graciously offered their time to get the ball rolling anew.
S: I think it would be a great idea to start a "CA Classifieds" forum. I would be a place to post job opportunities and services available by other CA members. That way CA members could be able to get their resources and opportunities out to other members. It would be a great way to bring the community of CyberArmy together as a whole.
R: Staff who responded feel that this is something along the lines of a ?Spam Forum?, which is something that CA is pretty much against. For the most part this idea will not be implemented.
