| If you listen to music, watch movies and play games on your computer, this article is for you. Today we are going to review a good 2.1 (2 satellites and a subwoofer) sound system, the Logitech X-230.

Here are the technical specs from the manufacturer:
- Total RMS power: 32 watts RMS (2x6 watts satellites; subwoofer 20 watts)
- Total peak power: 64 watts
- Frequency response: 40Hz-20KHz
- Satellites dimensions: 8" x 2.5" x 3"
- Subwoofer dimensions: 9" x 6" x 9.25"
- Signal-to-noise ratio: 96dB
Also note that it's compatible with PCs, Macs, CD and MP3 and DVD players, as well as Playstation and Xbox (with the game console adapter). Let's move on with the speakers.
The satellites feature Logitech's FDD? (Frequency Directed Dual Driver) technology. FDD? is well known in the hi-fi world, but until this system, I don't think any affordable multimedia 2.1 system has used this technology. Its aim is providing a uniform sound by eliminating interference between the two transductors in each speaker.
Logitech tried to, and succeeded in, designing a set of speakers with good acoustic quality. I would say that the X-230 has the best sound quality of its price class.
Since this system is designed to plug into computers or game consoles, it's not powerful enough for big rooms, but it will fit perfectly in your bedroom (for example), because neither the subwoofer nor the satellites take up a lot of space. They satellites can easily fit on top of your desk, or they can be mounted on the wall and utilize separate volume controls. Everything is wired to the right satellite, but the wires are long enough to allow you to place the speakers wherever you want. There's also a headset connector located on the right speaker as well.
Sound-wise, the X-230 is amazing. The maximum sound level reached is 106 dB SPL, and they deliver a very clear and uniform sound without distortion. The bass response is good, but not very powerful. This system is definitely designed for single user use only.
The Logitech X-230 can be found for US$35, and for 35 Eu in Europe. That's quite cheap for this type of multimedia system, so you've got a very good ratio of quality to price. I have already equipped all my computers with the X-230, and I'm satisfied with them.
