CyberArmy Ribbons Discussion
Last month featured the introduction of this topic. It created a lot of discussion on the usefulness and practicality of ribbons. In the end, Staff was almost evenly divided on the pros and cons. The discussion then popped up on the CPT/MAJ/LtKER forum where a discussion and vote was held. They too, as it turns out, were practically evenly divided on the topic. Both sides have great ideas, but this topic isn?t anywhere near ready for implementation, if it ever manages to meet with approval.

Congratulations to New Promotions!
Captain Comet, Second Lieutenants Madvlad, FiberOptix, and Urthogie. Congratulations on the deserved recognition!

In The News
Thanks to Gen Adtrace for adding a wiki for external articles featuring CyberArmy. This wiki can be located at https://www.cyberarmy.net/about/IntheNews

Alphaplex Challenge
CyberArmy has always had strict guidance when it came to Zebulun, Alphaplex and other challenges? No Challenge Discussion. In a time when successful completion of a challenge gave users more authority, responsibility and control over the site, it was imperative that we strived to preserve the integrity of the challenges. However, since the time of the ranksplit, that control has been passed to individuals receiving promotions for Brigade and CyberArmy work.

A review of the No Challenge Discussion policy has lead us to consider other successful challenge sites such as OSI?s Geek Challenges. Hints are offered through the challenge itself as well as on forums. The idea is that people can get stuck. When this happens it can be difficult to find that little piece of information that would allow them to learn and move on through the challenge. OSI?s Geek Challenges are a huge success and while hints are offered, the overall fun of completing the challenge is still preserved by all users by offering hints only on very specific questions without ?giving? away the answer to the challenge.

As such, our thoughts are that we want people to learn, first and foremost. At the same time, the entertainment value of the Alphaplex challenge must be preserved. An updated policy on Alphaplex will be released by our ChalDev Team in the next zZine CA edition, in an effort to clarify the Do?s and Don?ts for future challenge discussion.

Forum Stickies
Thanks to Cpt comet for the new Forum Sticky feature. This has long been a topic of discussion and is a great addition. The recent discussion concerning this new feature dealt with the unnecessary use of stickies. Who can add and remove them, which topics are most important to actually be stuck at the top of a forum and posting stickies to the correct forums. Considering this feature is so new, guidelines have not yet been established. Since moderators and administrators have the ability to add and remove stickies, it was decided to hold off on guidelines for the immediate future in an effort to access how they might be used. Guidelines will come, but in the meantime, we?ve seen this feature used in a very professional manner on all forums, exactly as it was meant to be used. Great work on everyone?s part for using restraint with this great new feature.
