Another month, another Staff Digest. It is clear that last month’s shake-up really had some effect, as this is one of the longest Staff Digests to date. A lot has been going on in Staff and a lot has been done. I hope you enjoy this month’s edition of the Staff Digest!

07-02:
Some small updates
VCinC icklenewt added some minor new features to the Staff command panel and /~user profiles. It is now possible to see exactly when somebody joined CyberArmy. If somebody joined prior to September 2002 (when Dinah came online), it will display “joined prior to September 2002”. Thanks ickz!

07-09:
Welcome back VCinC wa1800z!
After being semi-inactive for a while, VCinC wa1800z announced he would soon be returning to active duty at CyberArmy again. Some of the reasons for this are that he (“finally”) graduated from university and found a full-time job which also gives him full-time computer access. Congratulations wa1800z and welcome back!

07-12:
Feedback involvement
VCinC Icklenewt noted that not many Staff members were actively involved with the processing of feedback requests. She called on more Staff members to check the Feedback Forum and reply to the submissions. The feedback backlog was soon cleared.

07-16:
Moderation privileges and a new forum setting
Mar Prothis noted that Moderation didn’t have the necessary access to do its work on all the publicly-accessible forums. This was quickly solved and Moderation now has the necessary access on those forums.

At the same time VCinC Icklenewt announced that there is a new forum setting. Forum admins can now set the forum to ‘reply only’, meaning that only moderators and admins can post new threads, with other users only being able to reply. The first forum to use this new setting is the CyberArmy Polling and Vote Forum.

07-17:
'Goals' update
VCinC Icklenewt posted an update on how many of the CinC goals posted last month by CinC DigitalDemon had been reached. She also posted a list of goals which still had to be completed. Many of those goals have since been completed or are in the process of completion.

07-17:
And the growth continues...
VCinC Icklenewt noted that June had once again seen an increase in the number of registrations of new accounts. In total, 117 new accounts were registered in June (compared to 111 in May and 85 in April).

That growth continued into July, with 134 new accounts being registered in that month. Although the exact figures aren’t available, it is clear that brigade participation is also up. Roughly 10-15 more members are currently in a brigade than 2 months ago.

07-17:
Welcome LtKer Rose and LtKer Harurenu
Today, LtKer Rose and LtKer Harurenu were welcomed as the newest members of Staff. Both of them have done and are doing great work at the Privacy Commission and in the CyberArmy in general. Welcome and congratulations to both of you! Congratulations to Rose as well for becoming the new C/O of the Privacy Commission.

07-17:
Recruit rank implemented
VCinC Icklenewt announced that the planned ‘Recruit’ rank had been implemented. From now on, a new member has the rank of Recruit (Rec.) after registering. Only after joining a project or brigade does a member attain the rank of Trooper. Recruits have access to a special forum, which is supervised by the Recruit Guidance Project. On that forum they can ask questions and get almost any kind of support. Thanks ickz, for implementing this new rank!

07-18:
Public Relations brigade created
One of the goals set by CinC Digitaldemon (see above) was the (re)creation of the Public Relations brigade. On this day, this goal was reached. The Public Relations brigade was created and LtKer Venom was set as its first C/O. The new brigade is broader than just external public relations; it also tries to improve the CyberArmy site to make it more appealing to newcomers and tries to get more members to join the brigade system. Congratulations and good luck with your very important task, Venom!

07-21:
Staff wiki
Mar Prothis updated the Staff wiki to include an ‘IRC availability schedule’ field for all Staff members. This can be used together with #warroom (see below) to get in real-time contact with a Staff member.

07-23:
LOAs everywhere
Several Staff members announced they would be going on short and long LOAs over the coming couple of weeks. Because of this, it could be difficult to get in touch with some Staff members. When you send a message to a Staff member and don’t receive a reply within a couple of days, chances are that that Staff member is on LOA. If it's urgent, you should get in touch with another Staff member, otherwise you will have to wait until that Staff member is back from his or her LOA. Thank you for your understanding!

07-24:
Library License, the debate
A major discussion took place regarding the Library License. There were some reservations about the CyberArmy Library License Agreement (CLLA), and one Staff member proposed that the Library use the Creative Commons License Agreement (CC). The issue was put to a member vote and the membership voted overwhelmingly for CC.

A member however, believed that the facts presented before the vote were incorrect. To make sure that we end up with a product that the community agrees with, it has been decided to hold another vote on the issue. You can find the vote and all relevant information here.

07-31 (and 07-22):
Rewriting the Mission Statement
Several discussions took place regarding the Mission Statement. It was decided that the current Mission Statement is outdated and that it no longer reflects on the current state and goals of CyberArmy. As the new Mission Statement should reflect what the community wants, it was decided to let the community have its say. Check the /members01 post here and have your say regarding the new Mission Statement!

07-31:
#warroom
In order to improve communication between the membership and Staff, #warroom was set up. This channel is meant for members to ask questions of and voice concerns to Staff members and to engage in serious discussions. If you have a question or want to voice a concern in real-time, be sure to join that channel!

07-31:
Brigade updates requested
CinC DigitalDemon requested that all brigade commanders and project leaders post an update on the status of their brigade/project. Most have obliged and a clear picture on the brigades’ activities is becoming clear. More about this in next month’s Staff Digest.
