June has been an exciting month for the CyberArmy. In all my time as the writer of the Staff Digest, I have never had to check so many forum posts to find out what exactly happened, what was proposed and what was said.
Welcome to the CyberArmy Staff digest for June 2007! This month I got about just as much content off of the CyberArmy Members’ Forum as off of the Staff Forum, as a lot of the staff-related discussion took place on the former. I hope that you will enjoy this month’s edition of the Staff Digest and that you will remain to be a part of the changes that are taking place.

Mar. Prothis

06-02:
Some imminent changes
VCinC Icklenewt announced some organizational changes on the Staff Forum. Among them was the merger of CyberArmy Services & Support and the CyberArmy University into a new brigade, the CyberArmy Academy. She also brought up Staff activity and Staff communication, two issues she would return to in the near future.

06-05:
Farewell and thanks, Gen. Goldfish!
After a long time on Staff and an even longer time in CyberArmy, Gen. Goldfish decided to retire due to time constraints. He was one of the biggest contributors to the SERED challenges and a well-valued Staff member. On behalf of Staff I would like to thank Gen. Goldfish for everything, hopefully we’ll see you returning in the (near) future!

06-10:
Staff activity
In line with her post on 06-02, vCinC Icklenewt posted a list of Staff members declaring that those who didn’t report in would be removed from Staff. A full list of all CyberArmy Staff members can be found here.

Treasury Information and Donors
CinC Adv. Condor191 posted on the Staff Forum that he was busy updating the Treasury balance and was in the process of making the donor list publicly viewable. Before adding a past donor’s name to the public list, he made sure he had their permission to do so. The list of donors can be viewed here. Note that those wishing to remain anonymous are obviously not on the list.

06-11:
Donations, Funding and Hosting
On behalf of the community, CinC Adv. Condor191 posted a donation appeal to cover hosting expenses to the general membership on the CyberArmy Members’ Forum. This started a discussion on the forum about the CyberArmy in general, its hosting and its financial transparency. The thread in question can be found here.

06-18:
The Future of CyberArmy
vCinC Icklenewt posted on the CyberArmy Members’ Forum her ideas and plans to improve CyberArmy. This included concrete plans like reviewing all the projects and removing inactive forums and projects. Her post also started a discussion about CyberArmy in general, and again good ideas were proposed. Many of the points brought up were also discussed on the Staff Forum, where it was decided they made good sense and many were carried out. Her post can be found here.

06-20:
Welcome back CinC Digitaldemon!
CinC Digitaldemon returned after recuperating from injuries sustained in a car crash and connection issues. On behalf of Staff I would like to welcome him back and wish him a full and speedy recovery!

06-23:
CyberArmy General Meetings
Staff is once again investigating the possibility of holding regular ‘CyberArmy General Meetings’. These meetings provide the opportunity for members to ask questions/voice concerns/etc to Staff members face-to-face on IRC. The viability of these meetings depends for a great deal on the interest of the membership in them. A poll is currently being conducted about this matter, please go here to read more and vote (if you haven’t yet).

Note: although the following was actually posted in the beginning of July, it is important to include it in light of events that took place in June.

07-02:
The Future of CyberArmy
CinC Digitaldemon posted a list of concrete plans on the CyberArmy Members’ Forum. This list was the result of ideas proposed during the discussions about ‘Donations, Funding and Hosting’ and ‘The Future of the CyberArmy’ (for both, see above) as well as of the input of Staff and other individual members. Some of these plans have already been carried out. A lot of forums and projects have been removed and the Missions Network has been removed from the HeadQuarters page. CyberArmy Homeland is also returning, with CinC Adv. Scanjack and Gen. Fu working hard to get it realized. The full list of plans proposed by CinC DigitalDemon can be found here.

CinC DigitalDemon’s post marks a distinct break with the past. It proves that progress can be achieved through discussing and above all through listening. Throughout June and the beginning of July, many good ideas were proposed and many interesting views were brought forward by CyberArmy members....by you. CyberArmy Staff would like to thank everyone for sharing your ideas and views. Some have already been put into effect, others are still under consideration or are under development. Only though critical, constructive discussion can CyberArmy improve, and recent events have proven that such a discussion is possible. CyberArmy Staff feels that the momentum of progress must not be lost and would like to ask you to remain constructively critical and voice your concerns when and if you have them. Only then, and only together, can we continue to improve CyberArmy.
