Does anybody here own a USB hardrive? I am thining of getting one and ws wondering how good they perform. Do they work as fast as a conventional ata-66, better or worse. Also Firewire or USB 2.0?

Firewire has a transfer rate of 400 Mb/s. I have an iBook which has an option built in where I can turn it off, plug it in to another computer via the firewire port, and boot back up while holding the "T" key and it becomes an external harddrive on the other mac. This is 4 times faster than networking it via the 100 mbit/s ethernet card.

I believe USB 2.0 is only 24 mbit/s. not sure, but I am sure it is much slower than firewire.

Thank Apple for that great technology. First came SCSI and now Firewire. Apple seems to come up with some pretty good hardware.
