![]() ![]() Delta LtKer int16h Greetings all and sundry. ion6ix and myself are proud to present CyberArmy's first SILC network. SILC was designed in 1996-1999 by Pekka Riikonen. It is a communications protocol which provides real-time chat like IRC, but unlike IRC it was built with security in mind. SILC provides features common to IRC, such as nicknames, channels, private messages and more; But one major difference people may notice with SILC, is that nickname collision does not occur - this is because users are identified by their public key fingerprint. Additionally, if you have received someone's public key and the same or another user connects with the same nickname... their nick will appear to anyone with the original key as "nickname#2" etc. All data between yourself, the SILC server you are connecting to and adjacent servers are all encrypted - providing a more ideal environment for secure communication. SILC is not quite as popular for real-time chat yet, as many people don't see the need for it when IRC is available, despite the benefits provided by this new protocol (Not only for security, but it's a flexible-enough base to write applications which use audio, video and other data).
