Friends,

Some of you may remember that the CPC released a Privacy Watch edition on "data mining" a while back. We covered some of the potential negative uses; here is a very potential, very negative use:

U.S. Patent Application #20070157227

In short, Microsoft(R) has filed for a patent on the world's most perfect ad-ware software. Is anyone surprised? I didn't think so.

The basic concept is to have the system use bits of information on your hard drive to display what is theoretically the closest targeted advertising ever. The best part? It could be integrated directly into the operating system.

Imagine opening Microsoft(R) Word(tm) and seeing an ad frame at the top that changes based on what you are typing about, or what you had just googled for the paper you were working on. I'd rather not go into further hypothesis because frankly it gives me chills.

Remember, it's not to late to come to the light!

Also... I don't think Microsoft is stupid, just evil. So I have to wonder if they are really planning something like I mentioned above; or is there something more sinister (and therefore profitable) going on here?

What do you guys think?

Respectfully,
