Hello everyone,
Since it seems to have become an unwritten rule, I will follow suit and make some statements about what Public Relations will be doing and what I expect to come from it in the future. First, let's start with the official Public Relations description..
Public Relations is the communication hub for the CyberArmy. Public Relations strives to spread the CyberArmy name throughout the Internet by advertising what we do and what we hope to achieve while acting as a liaison between CyberArmy and the general public. Public Relations is also responsible for improving the overall CyberArmy image. This will be accomplished through inter-brigade communication, site feedback, proposing and implementing new features, and member relations.
What does that mean?
Simply put, there are two sides to Public Relations. The first is external relations and communications with outside sources. This will include things like partnerships with other websites, banner swaps, external article submissions and contacting other communities trying to spread CyberArmy and trying to bring in more new members. The second is internal relations. Here our topics include things like thinking up new and better ideas for the website and the community, building communications within CyberArmy, and working with new (and old) members. As the first line of the description states, Public Relations is the communication hub for CyberArmy, regardless of whether that communication is coming from an internal or external source. With that means that although you may not be a direct member of this brigade, we want all members to be actively participating in forums and submitting ideas and suggestions. It will be the responsibility of Public Relations to follow-up on those ideas and discuss as necessary, then hammer away at getting them implemented.
What plans does Public Relations have?
Some of the work Public Relations will do highly relies upon the overall Mission Statement of CyberArmy. As this has been mentioned in the new action plan by DigitalDemon, it is expected to be in draft format very soon. Once that happens, we will have a better idea of what types of people our target audience will include, as well as which other websites and communities we can begin approaching to build a good rapport with. Also in the works are some ideas to better keep stats on what brings people to CyberArmy and what keeps people here. As we start to gain this information we will be able to target those areas of higher interest to better draw people in and keep them here. We live in a world that is run by targeted marketing and advertising, there's absolutely no reason why we shouldn't be using the same. There are also some plans to add to the Recruit Guidance Project and possibly add back a form of 'mentorship' program. More ranks may also come down the line at some point. The overall objective is to bring people in, keep people here, and create a more fun atmosphere for CyberArmy. Most of you reading this have been here for quite some time. We're looking to you for the reasons that keep you here and why you've stuck around so long. Your feedback will help us in making decisions to improve CyberArmy for everyone.
What can I do?
I can not stress enough how important it is that you voice your opinions, thoughts, and ideas for things you think could be done to improve CyberArmy. There is no one group that thinks up all of the ideas or makes all of the decisions. As a community, we all need to do our part. It is the responsibility of Public Relations to compile all of those suggestions into formal, working proposals for implementation. Your idea that you've thought should be implemented for years just might be part of the puzzle to success.
Can I join Public Relations
The new Public Relations brigade is not meant to be a large group. It will be limited to a small group of members only. To be a member in Public Relations you should meet following guidelines:
- should be a long-time member of CyberArmy
- Must be in good standing with the CyberArmy community
- Must have a strong willingness and desire to help
- Must be an active participant on forums and IRC
- Must have the ability to write properly (grammar/spelling/etc)
The reasons for such guidelines are simple. You will be part of a brigade where part of your primary responsibility is communicating with people outside of CyberArmy. Actions such as these are a direct reflection on CyberArmy and must be conducted in a professional manner.
Further Questions
You may direct any inquiries directly to me via cMS or by finding me on IRC, #public-relations (and I'm usually in all brigade channels when on IRC).
Thank you,
LtKer. Venom
