Most of the forums get a post less than once a week... for an "army" that theoretically has thousands of members (but we all know better), don't you think that means it's BROKEN ENOUGH!?!?!? Low post volume on the forums does not imply that new forum software will fix it, unless you have pinpointed some cause I am unaware of? >I understand that the backend is difficult to mesh.... but it's by no means impossible... and if the backend is the problem... SCRAP THE BACKEND TOO!!! The fact that making any change seems to be so bloody difficult speaks poorly for us!!! > >Change SHOULDN'T be such a difficult thing... No, changing the CA site shouldn't be a difficult thing, I agree. The process of submitting patches to the SVN should be improved upon so that the turnaround rate is faster. This is now one of the responsibilities of Mar. Decoder. What has gone from over a month's worth of waiting has gone to days thanks to his efforts. However, change in the sense of actually coding the stuff is obviously difficult to the degree of the change. Junking the ENTIRE backend and porting every single feature from CA into an off-the-shelf CMS is a huge change and would require an enormous amount of effort to bring it up to the functionality of the current incarnation of Dinah. It is very easy to say that change shouldn't be difficult, but it is, and making a decision to change is not change. Features take time and effort to materialise. Some features take more than others, and can be independent of what they provide to the forum user at the end. Like it or not, we are volunteers here and all the coders I know have to be convinced that a feature is needed before they will take time to produce it. > I don't know about you, but while this forum style was cool because it was created by the CA (like 12 years ago), it is now quite obviously out-dated, and should be replaced. > > Pretty much every single other forum on the web is vastly superior (from your other post) I would like to see a comparison to other forums and exactly in what way they are vastly superior, because this just sounds like hot air to me. If it is so obvious you should be able to state a few things that most of us will agree with. VCinC. Enstyne - /sered Challenge Coder Replies:
