Mar snarkles

- Virus/Spyware protection: 99% of what's out there is geared toward MS products
- Stability: I've had a brand spankin' new Windows ME installation (no modifications whatsoever) crash on me opening INTERNET EXPLORER (oh the shock and horror!). Nowadays, you really have to try pretty hard to crap out of KDE/Gnome.
- Customizability: It's an open-source product, so everything can be tweaked to the nth degree.
- Lack of invasive anti-privacy measures: Microsoft is constantly found sending little bits and pieces of data without you consent (list of all your installed software, unique identifiers, browsing history, etc.) from your computer to their servers, as well as being the masterminds behind Palladium.

And there are many, many, MANY other reasons why someone who's not necessarily computer-savvy might not want to run MS operating systems. By stifling "average joes" from running a desktop that is more stable, more secure, and cheaper than MS products, you're handing profits directly to good ol' Mr. Bill. If that's your intention, then great. Otherwise, that's why there are so many different distributions of Linux.. so the hardcore people who want to only run a server from a CLI can do so, and so the people who want to get their everyday work done can do so as well.
