Gentoo did take a little while for me to set up the first time but its not too bad, there isnt anything that you cant easily find out how to do online, TFM is a great one and should get you through everything ;). Just make sure you follow the install documentation to the letter read the 'USE' guide. IMHO even for a relative beginner the final product is definitely worth the little bit of frustration involved in setting it up.
