PC laptops can be difficult to get linux working on as they have intergrated components that normally only have Windows drivers.

I would reccommend a Mac laptop, good battery life, nice OS related to BSD. As there are fewer hardware configurations versions of linux designed for them (yellowdog and others) are more likely to be easy to setup once you feel you nede to move on from OSX (although you may find that having the depth it does, that you don't need to move on).

But don't rule out PC laptops there are some good deals around... do your research on the net for *nix compatabilitiy.

good luck.
