Have a registry problem...all help GREATLY appreciated

Hello,
I just deleted a backdoor that was marked in my system registry as "required" for applications to run. The computer is running Windows 98 SE. And, just to let you know, NOTHING ending in .exe runs. Any suggestions on how to fix the registry without a complete system restore?
