It has a couple of desktops to choose from, KDE, Gnome, etc, and seems to make a smooth transition from Windows (especially NT/2000). And it should be stable enough to suit your needs ... much more than the Windows platform (although, I still like 2000). Slackware is for more advanced users, and takes a little experience to configure correctly.
