why not just partion your HDD(partion 1:80GB[old], partion2:31GB[new]) and make a clean installation on the empty partion, thus you wont loose anything at all and you can even set it up as a dual boot of xp and 2k3 if you want.

just a thought,for partioning you might wanna try using partion magic(?) easy to use.
