Gentoo has released 2004.3 for x86, amd64, hppa, ppc, sparc, and an initial release for ppc64. You can read the information page, the changelog, or go straight to the mirrors, or better yet, the torrents. Check out the discussion (celebration) at Slashdot if you're a gentoo-enthusiast aswell.

Some not-so obvious notes:
  • This release is only "new" in a sense of Gentoo livecd, if you have installed 2004.0 for example and did emerge -u world consistently, you've got the same system that you would have installing from this latest livecd.
  • Technically speaking, emerge -u does not completely upgrade your system to the newest release. You need to update your system profiles as well. If you are upgrading from 2004.1 or later, it is as simple as # rm /etc/make.profile # ln -s ../usr/portage/profiles/default-linux//2004.3 /etc/make.profile However, if you are upgrading from versions earlier than Gentoo 1.4, it is quite complicated. For more information, see the Gentoo Upgrade Guide: http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/gentoo-upgrading.xml
