Mandrake Driver problem

I'm having problems installing the latest NVIDIA drivers on Mandrake Linux. The /var/log/XFree86.0.log gives me the following error:

(EE) Failed to initialize GLX extension (NVIDIA XFree86 driver not found)

the XF86Config -4 contains:

Driver "nvidia"

in the device module. So normally it should work fine. But it doesn't ... I tried reinstalling the driver but it still doesn't work, does anyone have an idea of what I'm doing wrong?
