If that's old news for you -- I wouldn't know cos I'm no OS phreak -- just ignore me. Otherwise, I'm sorry for not being able to give a more detailed description.

I'm about to get my hands on a Debian Linux tailored for portable use. I would assume it works something like this: It boots from the CD, then detects your hardware and compiles the kernel from a huge driver database (~200 Mb).

It comes with a GUI, but I still don't know which one. I would guess XWindows. Ah, and it works with that small USB portable memory thingies... that's very handy. You can take your favorite OS and storage everywhere.

In short, it should work for most of you, but it still has some video card problems -- particulary the latests ATI chipsets, if I'm not mistaken.

If I get enough replies I'll post a link to my server so that you can dl the CD image (ISO).
