I haven't used OpenBeOS yet, but I have use the original BeOS. I thought it was a great OS and it is a shame Be Inc. didn't market it more. If OpenBeOS has the same functionallity of the original BeOS, then it is by far a great alternative. Plan 9 can be used seriously as well. The only problem is hardware support. The OS design is quite interesting and seems to run quite well on the supported hardware. AROS is VERY selective as to hardware, I couldn't get it running on my machine beyond the most basic of functionality, which is booting the kernel.
