Basically, what the protest is saying is that if you patent certain code, programs, etc., you are over-riding copyright, and that it is stifling coders creativity. For ex: If the concept of the browser were to be patented by Microsoft(Internet Explorer), then all browsers made by anyone else would be in violation of that patent. Furthermore, since a browser is not a tangible object, i.e. a disk, car, television set, how can you patent it? The example given in the protest (have to wait for it to redirect you), is that if Haydn, a composer, had run a patent on symphonies, then anyone writing a symphony from then until this day, Mozart, Russion Orchestra, whoever, they would be in violation of that patent and could be sued for their creativity.

Truly, it is an interesting argument. Btw, main site of slackware can be found at http://www.slackware.com/index.en.php.

Here's to cheating, stealing, fighting, and drinking:

If you cheat, may you cheat death.
If you steal, may you steal a woman's heart.
If you fight, may you fight for a brother.
And if you drink, may you drink with me.
