for everyday use by most human beings, XP is one of the better MS releases. granted, it isn't perfect by any stretch of the imagination, but it's a far cry better than its predecessors. while the Win9x OSs were merely glorified shells for MS-DOS, XP is built around the kernel from WinNT/2K and offers certain benefits that DOS cannot provide. it does, however, retain the ease of use that Win9x was known for in its heyday.

long story short, people can still find plenty of practical use for it.
