As far as I know/have read, there aren't any known issues with that card and any of the newer *nix distro's. Sounds more like maybe the wrong video card driver was loaded during installation. May try installing different drivers in there and see if another works. There should be an upgrade option, or maybe you can just skip through most of the installation to get to the video part and go from there. Let me know how it turns out.
