Mandrake 9.1 installation trouble

I already run windows xp and am trying to run mandrake 9.1 on another partition. I got through the installation fine, everything is pretty easy but when I actually try to boot mandrake up there is a problem. I choose linux in the bootloader and it appears to be loading up, there are a series of tasks w/ accompanying "ok"s but when it appears that its done nothing happens. The screen just goes blank, no prompt, no nothing. Ctrl-Alt-F1 does nothing and all I can do to get out of it is to restart. I have a geforce4 mx440-se vid card, are there any known issues with that and mandrake?
