The thing is that it is a desktop that uses a pcmcia network card adapter (all linksys) I set everything up with SSID and WEP KEY and when I run iwconfig it has the access point address and everything but when I run ifup eth1 it can't get an IP address. Anyone have any ideas?

If you don't have any ip address, it means that the kernel don't recognize your card. What is *exactly* your card ?

Your wireless base may not work. Use Kismet (http://www.kismetwireless.net) to check if your wireless base is sending BEACON packets. This can be done even if you don't have an IP address (card is set in monitoring state).
