If not, check useful sites like http://www.idir.net/~gromitkc/latest.cgi and http://www.modem-help.uklinux.net. 2. use your client to send ATI commands to your modem and check if its answers are OK. If not, be sure that the speed you selected is supported by your modem. (selecting 117kbps instead of 56kbps doesn't help) 3. read again (I suppose you've done it once) the install docs and check if there is a script to (manually) run to configure your modem (country settings, etc).
