What type of router are you talking about? And what are you doing to it?

              that shouldnt happen
              EVER

basically, if you live in a place with bad electricity (lots of spikes or brownouts or whatever) then you might be killing them that way. maybe get a surge protector and try that?

otherwise, you must be doing something VERY wrong to be blowing them up like that

they are on a surge protection. thinking about getting a battery backup for them. what should i do if it happens again could it be i am running 2 computers off the same wall outlet. and a a cable modem the router a hardware firewall? could that be the problem? if so can it damage the rest of the system hardware

nah - I run way more stuff off a single outlet than that
if you were drawing too much power, you'd blow a fuse and you'd know it

Yeah, all my sockets are fire-hazards and have yet to damage any equipment lol :P

Although you're protected against surges, it might be worth checking how "clean" your electricity supply is (or calling someone out to do it ;p)

Unless you're using imported, cheap crap which haven't been safety checked - they shouldn't burn out :] (I don't know what it's like in the USA but everything to enter most european countries legally have to be checked; and even the ~$7 USD unbranded switch which gets really hot has never had any problems in 5 years + lots of cigarette ash being spilt on the vent ;)
