So, I recently have been doing some video editting and used up my hard drive space in my laptop. I opted to get a external hard drive recently to simply store all my video files there to relieve space on my laptop hard drive.

My concern is that one day I will click on a file and the external hard drive will simply crash. After speaking with a someone at the store I purchased it from - he said they crash more than actual hard drives in your computer. But speaking with a few different techs at Seagate, Western Digital and Iomega they all said that external hard drives would last longer since they are not used as often as internal hard drives.

Either way, I thought to ask here since I can get a response from experience as well as unbiased.

My main concern is the files stored on the drive are my only copies. I do make backups but dont want to make one for every thing I do...that kinda defeats the purpose of storing the files on my drive. Of course I know the security is there with that...but after buying the drive for about $200 dollars...I kinda feel I should use it.So should I be nervous or not worry about it and go on with my life? :)

Thanks.
