Infact it was manufactured only February 2004. It doesn't get excessive use, it's mostly only used to watch movies now and then, run the standard CD/DVD setups for application, backup my computer files, etc. I'd rate the amount of use it on a sliding scale...probably 3 out of 10. I've tried a different IDE cable, and I don't believe the DVD laser would have went because it still plays DVD movies. It just doesn't recognize DVDR's or DVDRW's. Keep in mind it's a combination drive so it's not because of the incorrect + or - media. Replies:
