CDROM Booting help plz [more]

I just got a new barebones system, its a AMD Duron 2000+ (I am 90% sure) and I was taking all the useable hardware off my old computer (that had a messed up mobo) and putting it in mine, I tried to boot from the gentoo 1.4 athlon xp livecd and it does not seem to detect the cdrom drives, I have a DVD ROM drive from my old computer and a CDRW drive that my mom had. During bootup, I found out that I had connected the IDE channels backwards and fixed it, it detected the hdd, but neither of the cdrom drives, I set one of the cdrom drives jumpers to slave and one to master, it shows no sign that it tries to boot from the cdrom drive and just skips to the hdd.

Any ideas what I should try?
