Cd-Drive on Sony Laptop...

Gen Tacheon

I'm having a problem with the dvd/cd drive on a sony vaio laptop...

The drive works fine with DVDs but when I put a CD in it won't recognise it is there (just says the drive is empty). This means I can't reinstall the OS, or use autoetect with CD's on boot.

I have checked the BIOS, Hardware conflicts, drivers, and everything seems to be working - any ideas?
