Press CTRL + ALT + DEL To Login

Summary
People often ask me how this works, so here's a step by step guide!
Body
Press CTRL + ALT + DEL To Login

I'm writing this because a lot of people who see me startup my system want to bypass the Welcome screen in Windows XP. I'm usually asked, "How do I make pressing CTRL+ALT+DEL to login to Windows work?" Here's the solution:

(I'm using Windows XP Pro. All latest patches.)

Steps
  • Start by logging in as Administrator
  • Then go Start Control Panel and open User Accounts.
  • Under "Pick a task..." select the option that says "Change the way users log on or off"
  • Uncheck "Use the Welcome Screen" then Apply Options
  • Exit out of User Accounts and back to the Control Panel
  • From there Open up Administrative Tools and then Local Security Policy
  • In the left window click the [+] next to Local Policies then select Security Options
  • In the right window click the policy tab so the triangle/arrow is pointing down
  • Then scroll down and find "Interactive logon: Do no require CTRL+ALT+DEL"
  • Right click it and select Properties and then select Disabled then hit OK
  • The next option down "Interactive logon: Do not display last user name"(This option is good for machines with multiple users, but not necessary)
  • Right click it and select Properties and then select Enabled then hit OK
  • Close all of the windows and restart. When Windows restarts you will get a window that prompts you to "Press CTRL+ALT+DEL to Login"
