| | Body | Hello Everyone,
Well after a slight delay I would now like to share my thoughts, plans and ideas on CA. This is what I feel we need to get back on track, and grow into the future.
About 7 years ago when I joined CA it was a very different place than what we have here today. While many would cheerfully boast about our 100,000 plus members, truth was there were only about 1500 active ones. Ranking members were feared, and Zebulun was the rage. Now everything is different, some say for the better, many say for the worse, but different none the less.
Many of you now want to know what I'm going to do to return CA to its glory days of big member numbers, and web presence. Well here goes.
One of the biggest problems I see is the amount of time it's taking to get updates/patches/features reviewed, and merged with our live site. To counter this I would like to put together a review team, and give them a server branch to work in, so things are tested, and ready for the commit to live. We have trained, and added a couple more people to the server access list, and chawmp has written a web script so we can have even more people available to make merges. Now once reviewed there will be someone with proper access to make those merges as quickly as possible.
Another big problem we have is being so far behind the times with our site. If you look back in the day we were cutting edge, now we've been left in the dust. Go take a look at antionline, CDC, altavista, even our own OSI sites. Back in our hayday we had that look now our homepage looks like something lost in time, or stored somewhere deep inside a workstation. We need a complete overhaul with a portal, article submission system, site stats, Info about us, News feeds, ect .. We have to move forward with the times, or we fade away. Now I'm looking for the dinah design team to use the server branch and other additions to quickly poll the members, find out what they want, and get them up and running to help restore our past glory.
Our next issue is member/project management. I'd like to thank everyone who has already looked at their projects, and removed all the inactive/dead/nonproductive ones. I'm looking for everyone else to please do the same, more is not better when you can't make something happen.
We need to pool our resources and setup a couple of good projects that have clear, defined, attainable goals, get everyone behind them, and see them thru to completion. Then and only then should we start more. Vice CinC Enstyne has already talked to me about a very interesting way we can help promote a better self regulated internet, which I'll leave to him to explain to the masses at a later time.
I know everyone has their own ideas about many things but, remember we only have a certain amount of resources, so lets use them wisely and see things thru. We can maybe get the design team to set up a submission and voting system for project ideas to keep things from running amuck. We also have a big problem in promoting members, and I will have the coding team working on a point based automatic system so the people who are here and working get the recognition they deserve.
I hope you all agree with and will support the way I'm heading here and I challenge every member to help anyway you can. We all have a duty to enforce our mission statement, and make every attempt to do what we say we stand for.
For my part I want you all to know that while you may not see me on IRC, rest assured I'm around. I check cMS'es twice daily and the forums at least once a day.. I'm rarely ever more than 24 hours out of the loop. I also want you all to know that anything you feel may require my attention, can also be discussed with any one of my Advisors, Vice CinC's, Marshals, or Generals.
