Hello, Pri
[b]Body
I've been asked by various members of this community to interview PrincesSoha; even if she's not in a brigade at the moment, she has done a lot for this community and she's still contributing every day, to make CyberArmy a better place...

Hello, PrincesSoha, and thanks for allowing me to interview you. Could you tell us something about yourself and in particular about your career here in CyberArmy? When did you join CyberArmy and why?

You are welcome.
Here is a fast history about my career in CA: One day, I heard my twin brother (Lt Sorcer), swearing very loudly while
playing with his computer. At that time, I never had ANY motivation to start and work seriously on a computer, due to my many RL activities. Although, I had a different computer with a different Internet provider back then, in early or mid 1999. So I ran to his room, to see what was happening. He explained – somewhat offhandedly – what he was doing. A minute later, he left the computer, and went somewhere for food, I think. He told me to try it instead. What I had to do was type random phrases then press enter. He told me to talk with her about love and a cat called Carbon Rod. I spent a LOT of time with that thing, without any success.

Sorcer came back later and saw my hopeless tries to beat that thing, so he took over. To be honest, I was excited by that thing that kept replying. I asked Sorcer about it and he told me about the Zebulun challenges. I passed level one easily, and then ranked me up to 2nd Lt. I beat 'Eliza' and kept playing until Major.

Enough about that, though; I'm not trying to tell what I did in the challenges. I remember vaguely that I joined Morale, and that I was responsible for the 2nd Lt board. Knowing that I had zero knowledge about technical stuff, I succeeded very well in that spot. I knew a lot of people; some of whom are still here, like dear Phydeau, Crashreaver, Khris and Emrys, and some still exist but forgot all about me, like Tacheon.

We had a lot of nice activities at the time that I looked forward to. We were called the Spammers' Club of CyberArmy. We even had a girls' union on the boards, heh. I joined CAER but didn't stay for long. Then there was a problem on the board – which I won't go into detail about – and because of some real life issues, I had to leave CyberArmy at the beginning of 2003.

I never forgot about CyberArmy, because Sorcer never left it. He kept me updated with ALL the new changes. One day he told me that Morale was now a top level brigade, and he said, "Why not come back to your old place?"

So, I registered again in the beginning of 2004, hoping to find the old crew still there...and they were! The very first thing I did was join 'DIRT' [a Morale subgroup], and I took the role of designing the website. Unfortunately, the brigade didn't last very long. They were disbanded, and there was no real need for me. I joined the HR division, but left shortly after that. I left along with a lot of others who were disappointed and discouraged.

I kept logging in with my trooper rank due to the rank split, to see what would happen in CA and what happened with the older folks. Some left for good, and some stayed in the brigades, but weren't very active. One day I talked to Khris on msn and he told me about Special Operations. As I met the brigade requirements, I applied and joined ERD to help with the recruitment process and do the website. After a small problem, I left and went to zZine, but I came back to CASOS after the CASO and CSA merger, where I was the C/O of Recruitment and Public Relations, I believe I resigned from SOS in May.

What about your real life? I know you live in Egypt, you have a brother (Lt Sorcer) and are involved in some kind of web design business, correct? What are your interests?

I'm a Computer Science student, and I live in Tunisia now (North Africa), and I went to a private French school back in Egypt. And yes, Lt Sorcer is my twin brother. We – me, Sorcer and our elder brother – made several small webdev and design companies and did several jobs in Egypt for the Ministry of Planning, an airline catering unit, schools, and Canada.
My interests are several - methyl drawing, playing piano, design, and doing social work and projects. Recently, I took up guitar.

At the moment you are currently not in a brigade, but you still do a lot for the community. You seemed really happy when the new Multimedia Design forum was created, and you're perhaps the most active graphic artist in CyberArmy. Why aren't you joining a brigade, if I may ask?

Yes, the Multimedia Design forum is the main reason I'm still around. Back in SOS, my job took up most of my time. I'd like to be in the white brigade for a while, I feel more free to share and help in different fields in CyberArmy. As an example, graphics designers and coders have no place but the white brigade. I care about and love this community; it is so incredible, trustworthy and intellectual. There are a lot of great people whom I love talking to and learning from.

What do you think about all the other people who are also not in a brigade but contribute to the community in some way?

I salute them for still serving and contributing for the best of this community while not being in a brigade. All I wish is that all the members, in brigades or not, understand the aim behind 'freedom of speech' and improve the public image of CA - sadly some people have taken things a little too far.

What do you think of the new Sered Challenges? Are they a positive or negative thing for CyberArmy? Why?

It is great to see another challenge on CyberArmy after Zebulun, it is certainly an encouraging thing for CyberArmy. A lot of old members came back again due to Sered, and I've seen some new faces around too. I hope that Sered will grab new members who eventually become incorporated into the brigade system. I also wish that more of the old members would come back, as I had many friends among them.

Regardless of your choice to not be in a brigade, you are still contributing a lot. What have you done recently?

Recently, I've been trying to help the CyberArmy members to develop their graphics skills, either by helping them or by getting other members to help. For now, I'm working on a few designs which you will see on the Multimedia Forum presently.

I was extremely happy that you agreed to create a new zZine template, and I must say that I'm looking forward to it. Could you tell us something about it?

Never put your graphics in plain words, just show it! I hope you will see good results soon. No further comments.

A few months ago I got a cMS from a CyberArmy member asking me if you could be the next Member of the Month, because in his opinion you really helped him and other people a lot and kept them motivated. I replied that I couldn't cheat on the elections results - even for a good cause - but at least I allowed members not in a brigade to be elected after this. Surprised?

Definitely, I have always believed that your success depends on the support you receive from other people. Everyone needs the support and confidence of someone. We have been missing these things lately. I appreciate it when someone likes my work. I'm glad to know that there are still people who appreciate each other's work; it gives me a great deal of hope.

What would you change in CyberArmy? What's "wrong" with the community?

I'd wish to see some real cooperation between the brigades, and to see more projects up and done. I'm pinning a lot of hope on Goldfish to get us the project system shortly¹. It is important to complete at least one of our projects - sometimes we cannot seem to accomplish anything, and we do not tackle one job at a time. the completion of a goal brings happiness and the confidence to tackle something bigger and better. Sered is a good step and I'm waiting to see more about Phoenix soon².
It is notable to observe how CyberArmy has matured over the years. There have been ups and downs, but it's always been grand fun, and it is so valuable to be a part of CA. I would like to see new members benefiting from CyberArmy's work and community in the coming years, and I hope that CA will always help new members to expand their knowledge about computers and the Internet.

I guess what is wrong with this community that we always hope to do something truly fundamental to change the Internet. However, I've come to accept as that this isn't our character.

Is there anything in particular you'd like to say to some people, brigades, or Staff?

I've learnt a lot from the talented, brilliant people in here, and a bunch of members have supported me. I would like to give my sincere respect to xwyzard for his support while in SOS, and to all of the SOS members who made me feel very welcome when I joined. I enjoyed working in SOS. As for all the members who dedicated their time, health, money, etc., for CA, they will acquire an individual gratitude from me soon.
CyberArmy has truly made a difference to the many people who have visited it over the years. I owe so much to the CyberArmy and to its members.

What are your plans for the future here in CyberArmy?

The aim of CA is more a self-development; we allow each member to realize their nature and skills, and maybe one day we will succeed in changing something in IT. Currently, I have no plans other then working on the Multimedia Forum :)

That's all, for now. Is there anything in particular you'd like to say to anybody who might be reading this interview?

Special thanks to you and the zZine team and to those who supported me. I hope that I contributed something with this interview.

Thank you very much for your time PrincesSoha, it has been a real pleasure.

The pleasure is mine.

Notes
¹ The projects system has since been launched.
² The Phoenix challenges have since been merged with the Sered challenges.
