This month I'm happy to present an interview with our new Commander in Chief, Condor191. Condor has been a very dedicated member of this community for many years, in particular, he has helped the IRC network grow and improve. Let's lets more about him, his ideas, and plans for the future...

When did you first join CyberArmy and why?

I don't remember exactly when I joined, Zebulun was still around, and Pengo was still here. I initially joined because I was bored of sitting in class and was looking for something to do, so I started messing with the challenges. After a couple days I got tired of them (stuck), and started looking around the brigades. Initially I joined Ready Response, and started making a name for myself there: after a few months I was one of the top level C/Os in the brigade.

Did you ever have any "second thoughts" about CA? In other words, did you ever leave the community?

Nope, I have been here since I joined up. Normally I am on here for at least 6-8 hours everyday between IRC and the site.

Can you summarize your career in CA? Which brigades where you in?

Well, when the CAIRC brigade was formed under DimplesX, I moved there, as I had been doing a lot of work with the IRC network: I've been an operator since CA brought their own network up.

I remember that you donated some servers, correct?

I provide 2 of the servers on the IRC network, chewbecca and diamond.

Why are you doing all this? Why did you choose to be so dedicated to CA?

Because I believe in the organization and this was one of the things I could do to support CA. I see CA having a lot of potential.

What's CyberArmy's potential? What do you think CA is achieving or can achieve in the future?

With the focus on the brigades I see CA taking great strides toward its mission statement. We are currently working on streamlining the brigades, as well as preparing for some very exciting things that should be coming up in the near future.

That was a somewhat general answer, is there any chance to know a bit more of all that?

Right now there is a lot of stuff still in the works, but hopefully it will be ready in the next several weeks.

Like 'Phoenix'?

I can't tell you much more than that, as there is a lot of stuff still in development.

Will Phoenix replace Sered or be complementary to it? Is there any other challenge on the way?

We are still discussing some of the future challenge plans; we will have at least one set of challenges coming. Right now we don't have a strict timeline.

Do you think challenges will be good for CA? Won't they just get more and more script-kiddies to the site?

Challenges themselves will be good for CA as a draw for new people. Most of the folks that work with CA started by coming here for the challenges and ended up getting involved in the brigades, myself included. Challenges do tend to bring all sorts of people, those that are here just for that as well as those who will get more involved.

Let's talk about you and your recent promotion to CinC: was it a surprise for you or was it decided beforehand?

It has always been the case that the current CinC chooses their successor. I was a little surprised that snarkles chose me for this role but I was honored that she felt I would be a good choice to lead CA into the future.

Any plans for the future? What did you do during this first month?

Well, I have been working on streamlining the brigades and also on some other initiatives to draw some additional people into the community.

Can you disclose any more details? (It is always the same when interviewing Staff members: they never give away too much info. I guess that's why they are on CA Staff.)

One of my latest initiatives is going to involve the IRC network. We are working on developing some IRC software and drawing in link opportunities with other networks, and a new service called Janus, which will provide secure linking of individual channels between different networks.

This leads to another question I wanted to ask you: is Staff thinking about some strategic network/community/site to partner with?

That is something I have been looking into and I think that with some of these development initiatives we'll make these types of relationships easier to develop and more fruitful.

To finish the interview: can you name a good thing and a bad thing (maybe with a possible solution to it if any) regarding CA as either a community or an organization?

Starting with the positive, CA has a group of very talented people that have spent a great deal of time making it what it is today. Unfortunately, CA has not seen a lot of new blood coming in recently, but I do believe that the completion of a set of challenges as well as some of the initiatives I mentioned earlier should make the community grow and move into the future.

Is there something you'd like to say to new recruits and to members in general, as new Commander in Chief? Some promises, maybe?

Just that I will continue to do my part to drive CA into the future and will continue to focus on the same goals/ideals that have driven CA to where it is.

Thank you very much for your time Chief, it has been a pleasure.

You're welcome.
