Morale: The Change........| Category | | | Summary | | On September 23rd 2003, CyberArmy Members Morale and Motivation has been disbanded. Someone could say ?and then? Why you bothered yourself writing this article?? |
| | Body | ? well, first of all because I was bored, secondly because Prothis asked me to write something happy (well, kind of?) for zZine promising to correct my grammar, and finally because I wanted to, because nobody did, because until now there's no ?official notice? that Morale have been disbanded, although some people already noticed it, maybe without giving a f*** to it, or maybe even crying publicly on the forums or start complaining about this or that?
True, this produced many different reactions, and to avoid further ? inappropriate and futile ? discussions and/or complaints, I decided to write the whole story here? well, alright, not the whole story because some parts are not supposed to be public, and also because it would be damn too long to write.
OK, let's start saying that since we moved from SAS to top level, as the ?Purple Brigade?, something was already in the air. The air was so fresh and new, a feeling of rebirth was pervading our hearts and? ehm, well, yes, since then people started talking about some ?new possible duties? for Morale. For those who ? sadly ? never had a chance to see the Morale Brigade in action, we were in charge of monitoring forums, helping people, solving disputes, maintaining a positive demeanor, and make CyberArmy a better place, by solving members problems, helping them, cuddling them, give them cookies? in a word, Morale was always there to heal the wounds of the community, and of members in particular, and contribute to motivate everyone to pursue a goal, and enjoy him/herself while in CA. [note: we are still chasing the thief who stole the entire Morale Cookies Reserve, and kidnapped Knightelator's D.I.R.T. strippers, taking advantage of the mess created]
?Sweet? a newbie could think? and I bet that I could still get people for such a brig, if I only had still the possibility. But don't think that our old brigade was just fun and cheerfulness, actually the work was hard, for different reasons, not everyone was able to do it in a good way, we had a (strict? :P) training system, in order to forge capable members to fight hard on the forums, making people feel better?
Regarding the new duties, as I was saying before getting lost as always, someone said we could have helped CA in a new way: by guiding new members inside the core of the community, the Brigades. Yes, we were supposed to become some sort of ?recruiting machine? for the whole CA, or better, a team of cheerful people able to motivate everyone who joined the community to work harder and harder for a specific brigade. This was the plan.
But of course ?Rome wasn't built in one day??
Understandable: that ?project? was supposed to be very big, implying some sort of liaisons network between Morale and other Brigades, and many other things. Staff required further discussions on what to do with us. Alright, in the end of July I went on my summer holiday, and I came back at the end of August - expecting to find a mess in Morale, i.e. everything starting working on new things, and stuff like that.
No, nothing really happened: everything kept going, if we can say that, even if we experienced a reduction of activity, due to holidays, and other problems: nothing about this new project, because it was still being discussed by staff.
The coolest things happened in the latest period, where the idea of ?CAHR? ? CyberArmy Human Resources ? was born. This new brigade, or group, would have been in charge of welcoming *all* new members to CA, introducing them to brigades, and in the meantime keep contact with all the brigades to know in real time what kind of positions are open, the skills required, etc. But why all this happened? Why Morale couldn't keep as it was? Well, for various reasons? some people started wondering if we could deserve a top level position for Morale duties, and also someone else pointed out that in a brigade like Morale, quantifying activities and projects would have been really impossible: every brigade needs to produce something, and well, Morale couldn't record and report any accomplishment? not because of the members, but simply because the services Morale offered couldn't be quantified and recorded easily: simply think about someone coming to us for a personal problem, we couldn't write a report mentioning his name, his problem and if it was solved: it wouldn't have respected his privacy.
In the last stage of this ?discussion?, it was decided that the best place for this new group would have been SAS, (?weird?) simply because of the similarities with the duties of other SAS subgroups, like CAIR or CAPR. Now we are currently planning our activities, and proposing an internal structure of the group. Morale was dissolved, and the entire amount of its members deport? ehm, *transferred* to SAS :: Human Resources. All morale forums have been deleted, not without pain from some of the Morale members (*sniff*? my poor little training forum!!!), some Morale members left, some remained, some became slightly idle? this was the bad side of the whole operation, and feelings were hard to control, during the first days, maybe?
To conclude the story I originally prepared a somehow longish paragraph starting with ?In ever important event in the History of Mankind? and ending with ?Don't mourn the loss of Morale Brigade, but applaud the birth of Human Resources, Son of Morale?? but then, well, after an accurate analysis I thought about something slightly less rhetorical, to conclude the history of our evolution.
Before everyone goes here and there and starts flaming [you b**tard, you killed Morale!], moaning [*buhu* I wanna be trained by h3raLd!], or laughing [lmao!], I humbly invite all of you to think about this big or small, noticed or unnoticed change as an Evolution, not as a destruction or a creation. Lavoisier or someone like him said ?In nature nothing is created and nothing is destroyed, but everything transforms?, well, that's what happened to us: Morale transformed into Human Resources, it wasn't destroyed, and neither a new group was created? it's always the same people, and always the same Ideal ? make CyberArmy a better and more enjoyable place.
Now I'd like just to include two notes, to two different categories of people:
# For those who loved Morale as it was, and now feels sad/angry/shocked about its dissolution:
- People, please, do not abandon you in emotional acts on forums, or on IRC? there's absolutely no need and it's simply against our principles! There's no need to be sad, or angry or surprised and shocked about what happened to us: Morale didn't die, and it will never. #morale channel will ALWAYS exist and all the access will be maintained as it were, you can still come in there and have fun [note for inf3rnal: when I say ?fun? I don't mean ?flood?, note the spelling]. In addition, there will always be something on forums to watch out, either me, or Crash, or Knightelator, or Phydeau, or even new faces! We'll carry on Morale duties either informally or through a project in CAHR, depends, but for sure we'll keep our work in that direction.
Phydeau is still around?! and I wish he can always come and have fun in #morale with any of you [note for inf3rnal: well, ?fun? here doesn't mean ?be annoyed and harassed?? :P]. The most important thing is that EVERYONE can always be civilized and excellent to every other member, and not betray Morale's values: if we keep a bit of ?Morale? in ourselves, our community can really be better!
# For those who wanted a more organized group, and maybe now are worrying we wouldn't be up to the task
- Well, people, to all of you, on behalf of CAHR Executive Staff I can assure you that we'll always do our very best. We'll introduce new features and objective which will be extremely useful for the community, and we will be ACTIVE and above all SUCCESSFUL. My personal dream is that in 2-3 months time there will be no single member in CA moaning with something like ?ohhh? look, they are idling? they don't accomplish anything??. If this ever happens, I'll take this person by hand and make him look at our (hopefully) new webpage, and say ?look: there you can see how many people signed up for CA, there how many of them were contacted by us, there how many were placed in a brigade successfully, there what brigades are looking for and what we can offer at the moment, there what projects we completed with links, where possible? Now you can *rephrase* what you tried to say?.
Last but not least, I wanted to thank especially General Phydeau, and all the people who made the difference in Morale: your work was really exemplary, and it will be remembered forever in this community, and every member should *always* remember what Morale taught or tried to teach them.
I really wish we can start doing something as soon as possible. Members are looking forward to starting working hard and make the difference. Because we will make the difference.
Simply because ANYONE in CA, with determination and hard work, can. [note for inf3rnal: yes mate, you as well? :)]
