Board Digest [Jan15th]| Category | | | Summary | | Greets all, this board digest edition is the first that I have authored, I hope I can live upto elm with the authorship of the board digest. Over the last few weeks elm has taken on the director role of the CyberArmy Manifesto Project, which I am sure you |
| | Body | *A quick note from elm. Per DD I will still be involved with this project. I may even write something for it from time to time. I do greatly appreciate Aimee's assistance on this matter. And now back to the scheduled program*
There have been many interesting events over the last few weeks in regard to the forums, but one event that I need to bring up here is a congratulations message to elm. For all of your information, however most already do know, elm was promoted a few days ago to the rank of Kernel! This is an excellent achievement and a rank very deserving of elm's efforts within his brigade and within the community as a whole. So, Congratulations Kernel Elm!
The New Specialist forums are now settling in well within the CyberArmy community, they are buzzing with activity and knowledge and are now a permanent item of the /forum/ page. Remembering, the more information, editorials, guides, news, etc. we get up on those forums there more likely it is for external members to find us on search engines. Three of the Four Specialist forums available to members are also available to guest users and all content is searchable by search engines such as google.com, the other day infact I was looking for some advice with a particular operating system issue I was having, searched google and found that CyberArmy's OS issues forum with a post relevant to my problem was actually in the first page of the results, it's really excellent when you can go to a search engine, search for help and then turn up results and have your own "Ah ha!" moment while reading a forum that you moderate, lol. Hopefully these kind of informational posts will bring more members to the community and we can help these guys out. Awesome work so far on all these forums and a special mention of thank-you to the CASR guys for the smooth running of the Security Forum, it's just wonderful.
Good news also this digest for those of you who have mile long signatures! a subset of BBCODE is now available to use in the Profile<Plan section which shows up in your /finger/nickname information. This is great for all of us, because now we can put all the extra's in there that are currently in our signature due to no place else to put them, and then place a simple link to our /finger/ page instead. This issue has been brought up in feedback and by moderation, hopefully you all like it, and thank-you to Chawmp for making this possible. (See; the official update post below under Member's General Discussion posts).
Also, mentioned this week was the finalization of the new Dinah 0.6, see this weeks Staff Digest for details,
( available at http://www.cyberarmy.com/forum/members01/messages/69164.html ).
Thanks all,
The boards a great place to be at the moment!
Aimee.
CyberArmy Help & Support
To all that have noticed the CyberArmy Forums move around and re-arrange themselves nearly each time you hit refresh, like LazyDave has here, then this post should help clear things up. Pay particular attention to Skerzhner's reply, that is if it doesn't make your head explode.
http://www.cyberarmy.com/forum/help/messages/66993.html
Not much else happened on the Help & Support board of notability, people had problems logging in so they
posted, others asked questions and they were answered. Hopefully, everyone got the answers they were looking for.
Members' General Discussion
Chawmp made some excellent updates and enhancements to the /office and .plan (/finger), thanks for your continuous efforts Chawmp, everyone really does appreciate it.

Brigade Recruitment Forum
Usually not much is written on the recruitment forum in the board digest, not much is going to change in regard to this. There were a few posts of notability however, other than these people came, people looked, people
queued, people started working.
Philosopher made a rather interesting recruitment post for Ready Responses Inter-Brigade Communications, bringing some humor and oddity into recruitment.

Hopefully seeing recruitment posts from top-level C/O's within brigades is a sure fire sign we've got *tons* of positions open, so now is a better time than ever to join a brigade and start doing your part for CyberArmy.
CyberArmy Ideals
LazyDave posted a question for discussion on this forum about why people joined CyberArmy and why do are they still here, it's generated some interesting response. Definitely worth a read.

Security, OS Issues, and Programming
A lot of interesting information on these Specialist Forums, Originally when on a trial basis a number of members within the community were showing doubt that these forums would be used or were completely necessary, at this stage however we all look to these forums and know they're here to stay. Usage has been excellent and they're also going wonderfully on the relevance front, excellent job of keeping all these posts within the specs of the particular forum guys! :] There wont usually be many links to particular posts on these boards because the majority of information is directly based on people asking particular questions, etc. But here
raekdoe informed us of how Microsoft is wanting to replace the TCP/IP standard!
http://www.cyberarmy.com/forum/security/messages/65897.html
nukebloodaxe requested advice on securing a super-computer which received a number of interesting replies.

Rank-Based Forums
Rank forums have begun to take a nice turn, hopefully for the better. Officers posting and discussing controversial issues and the inclusion of staff plans/suggestions being posted for discussion. Some people took these discussions on a serious level, some officers made farm animal noises, and others just wanted to party. I'm glad to see the initial negativity concerning these boards has for the most part disappeared.
Moderators for these boards are currently being decided by General DigitalDemon, these moderators have been dubbed "rank mods", they will be moderators in training so to speak who will look after their relevant rank forum and then perhaps go on to become full moderators based on their performance, looking forward to seeing this development taking place! :]
