zZine Profiles: LtKer Asmodai| Category | | | Summary | | This week, zZine went to Gen. Goldfish of CASR and asked for an active member whom we should interview. He reccomended Lt.Ker. Asmodai, the C/O of CASR's Security Auditing group. |
| | Body | Octopus: First off, thank you for taking the time to be interviewed by zZine.
Asmodai: No problem :)
O: How did you find CyberArmy?
As: I was hanging around on LineOne's IRC server in April 2000, talking to some folk who I'd known for a while. They were all going on about a "lame JavaScript challenge." I got fed up with their "oh eye l33t" stuff. So I decided to have a go. I got past the javascript stuff, got past Eliza in under about an hour, and then was hooked. :)
O:Did you join any other brigades before CASR?
As: No. there was a lot of stuff going on in my life. I just didn't have the time to give to either CA or brigades. CASR is the first brigade I joined.
O: When did you join CASR?
As: Some time in early October, 2002. Jeian talked me into joining Skyper's UNIX team
O: Why CASR?
As: I thought that they were just script-kiddies. So I really joined up to make a change and add my UNIX skills to the brigade.
O: You're the C/O of Security Auditing, is it fun for you?
As: Its a good team. It should turn out to be a pretty exciting adventure.
O: What does your job involve?
As: Taking up that C/O position was probably the best thing for me, next to joining CA itself. At the moment we audit websites, code, hosts, and networks looking for improvements.
O: Do you think that CASR is heading in the right direction?
As: Yes, very much so.
O: You're a LtKer. at the moment, have you been promoted or was that all through the challenges?
As: It was all via challenges. Got to LtKer. in about a week and a half; been LtKer. ever since :)
O: What did you think of the zeblun challenges?
As: Some of them were easy, some were hard. It had a pretty good mix. Kept me busy for a while, I enjoyed myself attempting them.
O: Do you think Sered will be better?
As: I've tended to ignore all that I've read on Sered so far. But, I look forward to its launch.
O: Do you think CyberArmy is heading in the right direction?
As: Yes, very much so
O: Do you think that CA could improve at all?
As: As with any organization, there's always room for improvement. For how, well, I'm pretty happy with it as it is. There are a few superficial improvements I'd love to see. But those are probably being worked on as we speak :)
O: I recently did an article on CA ambitions, what are your ambitions within CyberArmy?
As: To run a damned fine brigade. I'd like to see CASR be one of the best brigades in CA. And obviously, I'd like to see my brigade being one of the best in CASR.
O: Do you think you'll achieve that, or have you already?
As: Its not there yet. But, I think we can achieve that.
O: Is there an interesting story you could tell us about you?
As: Well... I could tell you about my current work load: I'm currently working on a project that's going to abuse most of my hardware here. My hardware is currently a Windows PC and six UNIX PCs. The project is kinda classified for now. But, it'll involve the use of Common Lisp, Prolog, Perl, Flash and PHP. So, my life is full of books about Lisp, Prolog, and AI techniques. Its all interesting stuff. Thats really how I got to where I am now: give myself an "aim," get the tools, and go do it. Thats really how I learned UNIX. All I can say about the current project is: I might end up writing a paper on it and submitting it to the academic AI community. |
