Violence In Video Games Breeding Terrorists?| Category | | | Summary | | According to a popular, politically correct point of view, video games such as Mortal Kombat, Unreal Tournament, and the ever-scapegoated Doom are the reasons behind children becoming violent. |
| | Body | The Christian Coalition says that the semi-recent violent incidents at schools, Columbine being the popular one to name, would not have happened if the teens hadn't been "exposed" to such graphic violence.
Says an unnamed spokesperson of the CC: "If such video games were better regulated, then these things might not happen. Giving these children access to this kind of entertainment is just like giving them a loaded gun. The games they play are even informative, giving explicit details on everything from how a given gun works to the proper way to use it."
The government, on the other hand, seems to utilize common sense, at least for the time being.
"The very idea that being able to point and click a mouse and hit keys on a keyboard can educate you on how to shoot a real weapon is laughable," says an FBI spokesperson, "and anyway, such games have a rating system that disallows underage children to buy them. If they own a violent game, more than likely their parents bought it."
Regardless, the CC is gung-ho on removing violence from video games, movies, and even documentaries, such as Schindler's List, which is an older movie that gives an in-depth and detailed look at the Nazi treatment of Jews during World War II. They have made proposals to remake the movie, cutting out the violence and more explicit details of what happened.
One must keep in mind, however, that most of these people are also supporters of any form of censorship, including Gun Control, banning Harry Potter, Pokemon products because they are the devil, and collectable card games such as Magic: The Gathering.
Interestingly enough, the CC spokesperson was also one of the organizers of the "Million Mom March," which was a gun-control play in which supposedly more than a million parents gathered rallied to show their support for banning private ownership of all firearms "for the safety of their children".
One wonders who was watching those millions of unattended children during this rally. |
