Interview with Mar. Xenographic Pt. 1 of 2

zZine
Summary
Last night, we interviewed a long-time member of CA, Mar. Xenographic. Many already know of him because of the numerous posts he has made in the CyberArmy Lounge. The interview was so long, that we've decided to break it down into two parts: Sere
Body
BlackFlag: Thank you Mar. Xenographic for taking the time to be interviewed by zZine.

Xenographic: You're welcome. I'm always glad to give CA something to talk about. ;]

BF: First of all, the question that everyone has been dying to know: when will Sered be completed (start of 2003, as has been widely reported, or later?)?

Xeno: I cannot confirm or deny whether or not Sered is already up. All I can say is that there is plenty for CA members to investigate, such as the large number of cryptic posts I've made and the info in my finger.<

BF: What can or can't you confirm or deny will be new in the Sered challenges?

Xeno: Well, they draw on the old challenges somewhat, though you should expect new surprises. The storyline is a continuation of the old Zebulun, hence the name 'Sered.' [Sered was the eldest son of Zebulun in the Old Testament] Other than that, you should expect the unexpected. By the way, I should make it clear that the people developing Sered are classified. Most of the staff only know bits and pieces; heck, not all of the developers know everything... or so I've heard. :]

BF: Now, do the cryptic posts and files that you've posted actually have anything to do with Sered? ;]

Xeno: My cryptic posts? Well, if you investigate them thoroughly, you can answer the question of whether or not they relate to Sered for yourself. I know that several people are advancing through the information I've released. In fact, some of them are quite far.

I also set up the channel #0mega not that long ago, specifically so that people could question me about Sered as much as they wanted.

BF: Will the challenges be amazingly hard, easy, or a mix of both (like the old Zeb)?

Xeno: The only part thereof that even I can be sure about is that they'll be mind-bending. Though I'm sure that they'll include both 'puzzle' aspects and bits more related to computer security.

BF: What led up to your being a Tr/gamma for a short time about a week ago?

Xeno: I was testing some scripts under cyberarmy.com/command. Unfortunately, there was a typo and I was set to 'z8' instead of 'c8.' So that messed up my record in the CA database, making me into a Tr/gamma. It took me a while to get a CinC to help me fix the DB, so I went to the Lounge to show off my crazy new rank. I'm still working on convincing them to add an '0mega' rank so I can be Mar/0mega. ;]

BF: Savvy users were able to find all of the badges for the Sered ranks, are there any other small things lying around in the depths of CA for people to see?

Xeno: There are tons of things lying around CA that 'mortals' will never see. For example, I still have logs of the old /zebulun10. My only advice is that if you hope to see these things, pay attention to what information the staff lets drop. Every so often, we put up files, sometimes for very brief amounts of time; though you're not likely to see most of them for security reasons. Many of them are quite mundane, but every so often. ;]

BF: We've already seen a glimpse of the ranking system, but to be sure, how exactly will it work?

Xeno: Well, there are 10 levels, at the moment. The ranks go from Kappa up to Alpha; all of which are greek letters.

I can't wait until some people start showing up as */kappa... :]

BF: Is there anything else that you'd like to add about Sered?

Xeno: Well, anyone interested in it should keep up with my finger details. I'll try to keep it up-to-date with anything you should know. They should also keep up with my Lounge posts. Every so often, I might let something really interesting slip. Of course, there's some question as to whether they would know if I did... I've spent a lot of time researching ways to turn what most people would consider "0mega" on sight into something that could be part of a challenge. So any old random drivel, even if all I did was cut & paste it off some other site.

Read on tomorrow to see the next part of this interview, which deals with CyberArmy's long history.
