CyberArmy Board Digest| Category | | | Summary | | We have just recieved another Board Digest, written by elm from CA-SAS. This is a fine piece, that is often our readers' favorite article. |
| | Body | We decided to start out with something a little different this time. I sent cMS to several members of different brigades, and all of the brigade marshals asking for their opinions of the boards, and moderation in general.
We will be publishing several of these over the next few weeks as part of the digest. This is what dimples had to say. Snarkles also sent cMS
confirming that this was pretty much her opinion also. I agreed with most everything that was said. I would like to thank the brigade marshals for their constant support. I would also like to note that alley has joined the staff of board digest. She was responsible for the Brigade coordination forum and the Public Forum. I added a little to the Public forum.
Dear elm,
It is a hard job being in Board Moderation. You are always the bad guy! When you remove a post, you are the bad guy, if you don't remove a post
that offends someone, you are the bad guy. You can't win for losin! It takes a very special person to be in this brigade. Not only do you have to be an open-minded person but also a person that thinks outside the box. It is hard to see sarcasm in the word format or tell if someone is serious or just playing around.
IMHO, this brigade does an excellent job monitoring our boards. There is not a whole lot I would change in regards to what promotes you to remove a post. There are always the obvious posts that should be removed (bashing members, bashing cyberarmy, nasty ones) and there are the ones that could be removed because they are senseless chatter on the board. You know the
ones where they hold a conversation in the "topic" of a post. But if we start removing those, it will only provoke the members of the community to bash our Board Monitors.
So with that in mind, my only suggestion is to keep doing what you are doing. Apparently the majority of our members are happy with this brigade and the job you perform for cyberarmy.com. Board Moderation has just about
trained our members on what will be removed and what will stay. You can see that in the posts they make where they say, "I am sure this post will be removed".
My only thing that I would like Board Mod to push for, is to get the link up at the top of the board that states what this brigade expects from our members and their posts. I know DigitalDemon has them worked up, so it's
a matter of getting someone to put them up in the topic of each board. I am not sure if this rule is in there but, if you could add something about holding conversations in the topics that might help. That is really the only thing that starts to look like useless spam to me. The topics they chose to talk about is really up to them. It is a community and this is a place they should be able to post what they like and have a little fun. They don't always have to be so restricted. We all need to loosen up a bit and
have a little fun. :o)
Hope this helps you in someway.
Regards,
dimplesx

Generally speaking the board is working very well on informing members of pertinent brigade issues, efficient yet generally good humored.

And finally posted on the 29-10-2002 the promotion of Maj lshmael to Ltker (well done to him).
Not a lot of negative posts apart from some members complaining about losing their rank due to the database purge.
Public Forum
The board is a lot quieter now partly due to the implementation of the rule regarding posts being moved from this board to a more fitting one
depending on the content of the said post. No serious objections to posts being moved.
One of the more important posts on the forums in a long time was made by Phydeau http://www.cyberarmy.com/forum/public/messages/23904.html
I did not know Asymblor well; I had talked to him a couple of times. What I have noticed is he was very well liked by some friends of mine. This tells me what sort of guy he must have been. I am sorry that he is gone, but I am sure they have the coolest computers whereever he is.
The board posts are of varying topics and generally of good humour more in keeping with general public viewing.
There have been very few troll posts and any that appear get dealt with swiftly, not a lot more to say on this board apart from one trooper who does her best to brighten up the board with her good sense of humour that is of course Tr aimee.
Help and Support
As things should have been people asked questions, and questions were answered. Please continue to only answer questions that you know how to answer.

Xenographic seems to have started some sort of disinformation campaign. I would warn people about it, and say that you shouldn't listen to anything he says because he could be a rogue marshal, but I might or might not have been told not comment.
Scanjack, retired the name Asymblor, and staff added a black ribbon to the Cyberarmy logo. Good job on that guys.
Recruitment
People try to get other people to join Brigades through guile, bribery, and sometimes threats of violence. Speaking of people being hurt, cMS elm if you are interested in helping with this publication.
