| | Body | As of just a few days ago, CyberArmy has officially embarked on a major policy change. While nothing is final, the image of the new CA is beginning to unfold. These changes will have a major impact on all "brigades". For those of you not familiar with brigades, they are divisions of people dedicated to promoting different tasks that are in line with CyberArmy ideals, such as Open Source Institute's promotion of programming and the open source community, or CyberArmy Privacy Commission, a watchdog group looking after the public's best privacy interests.
The changes may affect the very makeup of the brigades within CyberArmy. zZine is run by members of CAPR (CyberArmy Public Relations), though it holds an independant status as a website. zZine is more of a close affiliate. The reasons for this are many, but come down to three basics: presenting a view independant of CA rank structure, providing a stand alone service for those who aren't interested in or who do not know of CyberArmy, and maintaining a seperate quality of service.
While I am not yet at liberty to go into the details, I want to give everyone a good idea about what's going on. CyberArmy is now ranksplitting. The talk, planning, and most of the coding is now done, and it is upon us. If you're a CA member, you've heard about it now for over a year. The time has now come; the ranksplit wheels are in full motion!
CyberArmy is not only ranksplitting, but site splitting. A vote among senior members has partly solidified this position, but as I said, nothing is final. CyberArmy has a stigma that comes with it, and so we may be letting some brigades go independant, much like zZine, but more so. These may regroup under a completely new group outside of CyberArmy, whom some of you have come to learn will be call UnitedNetizens.org. This will become CyberArmy's "sister" group. Its membership will intertwine with CA's, but not exclusively.
It's all very confusing, even to me, who is privy to all the private discussions and meetings about exactly what is going on. But there are some definate things I can tell you. First, CyberArmy is not disbanding, it's just reorganizing in a way that best benefits everyone. Second, we are not shipping off existing brigades into the darkness, but deciding with that brigade's C/O what would be best for their efforts. Thirdly, zZine's role will not be changing all that much.
So, what does this mean to zZine and why does it translate into the removal of news from other sites?
As we don't know what brigades will be with CyberArmy and what will be with UnitedNetizens, it's prudent for us now to simply hold off on presenting any of them in either light. As some brigades may choose to change over to UnitedNetizens, zZine doesn't want to start confusion that they are directly under CA by presenting them on this site. This will later change when the distictions and changes are finalized. As zZine is currently independant of CyberArmy's structure, we must maintain an unbiased status. Don't let me confuse some of you... zZine is here for the benefit of CyberArmy, but it is not directly controlled by them.
zZine is essentially the paradigm of the split that will occur. An affiliate run by members "of" CyberArmy, but not "by" CyberArmy, though for the "benefit of" CyberArmy. As zZine has such close ties with its membership and news reporting, you will see much of the ranksplit changes reflected directly on this site. Thus, the brigade news blocks have been removed as nothing is finalized. What I cannot disclose are the details of what exact structure changes are being discussed or which brigades may or may not move. Now would be too soon to know, and would give everyone a false impression of what real changes are going to happen.
I hope this was informative and clear enough to understand, though I by no means expect it to be anything except a hazy understanding. Just know that the changes are for zZine's quality of service, but also reflect internal changes within CyberArmy. |
