Napster's new tune| Category | | | Summary | | With news of events concerning September the eleventh finally dying down we get real news once again, hey wait a second... Is that Napster? |
| | Body | | Yes, sigh, its true, the once popular music fetching service is back in the news and with good reason, the final word on their multimillion dollar settlement is hitting the street. Slapped with a massive 21 million dollar law suit from five major media monopolists including Sony and EMI they are realized that the only option was to do the old fashioned "begging for more time technique". It worked as the San Francisco federal judge Marilyn Hall Patel agreed to allow the small music company some extra time to settle out of court. With nearly seventy million users prior to its untimely demise, Napster decided that their software had the potential to dominate the market even with their proposed account and membership systems, even when having to go up against the newest peer to peer systems such as Morpheus. The only positive thing that would give the kindly folks at Napster any hope is the fact that the settlement in itself is the final step in being able to launch its new pay to use architecture. Well that’s positive news, I think. Well here is hoping that this venture into the world of online business doesn’t prove to difficult for the blue boys, who just might have their headset's cranked too high to hear the bitter sweet bells of reality... |
