BCoords Corner| Category | | | Summary | | Welcome to the second BCoord?s Corner article. This segment gives the Brigade Coordinators a chance to share our thoughts with you, and cover brigade related issues that have occurred over the past month. |
| | Body | This month I will be looking at ?How you can help CyberArmy?, as well as the following topics: A brief follow up from last month?s article and the retirement (from the brigade coordinator position) of Mar Condor191.
Follow up from last month?
Last month?s article started by looking at who we (the brigade coordinators) are, our general responsibilities, and hopefully gave you an idea of what we each do in the community on a regular basis. I?d just like to reiterate the point that, as well as being responsible for everything brigade related, we are also here to help out with general questions and problems, either technical or social in nature, that any member of CyberArmy may have. We can all be contacted by cMS, and are active on a daily basis.
Last month we also saw SHEPHERD?s thoughts on what needed to be done prior to out 3rd Qtr external push. This included contacting other organizations, and bringing new members to CA, which will hopefully continue over the coming months. He also mentioned that each member should be looking at how they can improve their part of CA, it?s image, and it?s reputation, to make CA look more professional and I look forward to seeing what each brigade has been doing to achieve this.
Condor191 Retires as BC?
During the last month Mar. Condor191 has stepped down from his Brigade Coordinator position to spend more of his time managing the CAIRC Network. He remains on staff at the rank of Gen.
On behalf of the other Brigade Coordinators, and the CyberArmy members, I?d like to thank Condor191 for all the work he has done while in his Brigade Coordinator position, and wish him luck for the future :)
How you can help CA?
Over the past months we, your brigade coordinators, have begun to brainstorm ideas on the general direction of CA, and its brigades. We?d like to start looking at mid-term (5 year) goals for both CA and each of the brigades. Obviously as members of CA, we?d love to hear your ideas. If you are in a command position you should be considering the direction you wish your group to move in over the next few years, what you?d like to achieve, and setting goals to help you to get there. You should be discussing these ideas with the people in your group and getting their ideas and opinions. You should also be discussing them with your C/O to make sure they fit in with their goals.
An important thing to keep in mind when offering to help with projects is to not overstretch yourselves. It is better to get one or two projects done really well (for example the recently completed CA Petitions Project completed by CPC) rather than getting several projects almost done, or achieving a less than professional result. These major projects are how CA is going to earn its reputation so we should be aiming to give a professional image at all times. Project leaders can help by managing their members efficiently. Don?t give your members too much to do at once, keep an eye on the progress of your members and how much work they are assigned so that you don?t push them too hard. You should also be keeping suitable documentation for the project so that you can assess the projects overall progress, and allow the project to be archived or passed onto someone else should the need arise.
There are also ways that you can help the specific brigades within CA. These include:
Writing and teaching classes for CAU ? CAU are always looking for people to help teach classes or write tests for their Testing Center. This doesn?t take much of your time, but allows you to share your knowledge with the community, and help advance the community as a whole.
Writing articles for zZine ? zZine is published every two weeks giving people plenty of opportunity to write on a range of CA-related and technical issues. If you have an idea for an article, or for a whole issue, the zZine team would love to hear from you.
Writing Petitions for the CA Petition Project ? Now that this project has been completed and has been publicly released it is very important that people use it. You can help by submitting petition ideas, telling people about the project, and when possible signing the petitions.
Writing code and articles for the OSI website ? OSI are always looking for interesting new articles to host on osix.net, or for any other input to the site. You can help by writing code, answering questions on their forums, or writing informative articles.
In summary, there is a lot that each person can do for the community. You don?t have to be in a brigade to help, and any amount of time you can spare is always appreciated. With a little effort we can all contribute to building a professional, well-known, community that fulfils our mission statement.
I look forward to seeing people?s ideas and progress over the coming month.
