CyberArmy Staff Digest - Aug/Sept 2005| Category | | | Summary | | | Body | August:
4th of August ? LOA madness
It seems that the beginning of August was a nice time to go on LOA, with about four staff members doing so within four days of each other! All have returned safely and in one piece, and continue to work hard to keep everything running.
13th of August ? Signup/Password issue
Logs showed that lots of people who had just registered an account immediately hit the ?forgot password? button a couple of times. We figured out this was because there was no obvious message telling them to check their email for the automated CyberArmy welcome email containing their default password.
This was fixed by Chawmp. There is now a message telling people to check their mail before they request to have their password resent to them.
16th of August ? waz got sexier :(
We were all very shocked to hear that ViceCinC wa1800z and his brother were involved in a automobile accident. Luckily both are in good spirits and will fully recover. Best of luck wa1800z, to you and your brother!
17th of August ? CyberArmy funding drive
Our Banker-in-Chief Snarkles noticed that the funds were running relatively low (we like having enough money to pay for twelve months of hosting). It was decided to have an internal Staff fund drive to boost the account balance.
It was also proposed to put the ?donate? link back on the header; no final decision has been made regarding this yet.
23rd of August ? stabilizing the promo system
The old idea of changing the promotion system into a point-based system came up again. The advantage of such a system (if it is implemented correctly) is that the promotions become more objective and based on points rather than opinions. The problem with it is that it doesn?t take the member?s attitude, team spirit and things like that into account, which are all important traits of a senior CyberArmy officer.
After some discussion, it was decided that each brigade can handle promotions as it sees fit, with no standardized CA-wide system.
September:
5th of September - #cyberarmy rules
Adtrace noted that the #cyberarmy rules were not present in the /about wiki (or at least he couldn?t find them). They were hidden quite well and a link was re-added in a visible place to correct the problem.
11th of September ? spam problem solved!
A short while ago the CyberArmy forums were being plagued by spammers. We received lots of messages from online casinos, online pharmacies, stock reports, and insurance companies. We?re pleased to announce that the spam problems have been solved and we haven?t had spam for over a month!
15th of September ? welcome back asmodai!
General Asmodai has unretired and joined Staff again. We welcome him back and look forward to working with him (again). Welcome back man! Asmodai is now working with CyberArmy brigades in the position of x/o at SOS.
23rd of September ? farewell barnseyboy, welcome w0lf
After an extremely long tenure as C/O of the Open Source Institute, Vice CinC barnseyboy decided to step down as C/O. He will remain active as a CyberArmy (Executive) Staff member and will remain with OSI. He will be replaced by Kernel w0lf, the longtime X/O of OSI.
We salute barnseyboy for his dedication and hard work in OSI and congratulate w0lf on becoming the new C/O!
25th of September ? CyberArmy Staff Meetings
After not having had a meeting for a while, wa1800z proposed having the regular CyberArmy Staff meetings again. Apart from the usual ?can?t-be-there-then-how-about-later discussion, no objections were raised and it looks like there will be another meeting soon.
