Summary
Pretty much everybody will have heard this statement before: ?Those who cannot learn from history are doomed to repeat it.? This, as well as the fact that what I experienced and learned working as a C/O in CyberArmy completely matched the experiences and
Body
The aim of the Open Leadership Forum is to enable the leaders of our community to discuss the leadership issues they face every day and help each other to find the best solution(s). Additionally, it is aiming to create a record of the leadership knowledge and experience we have within the community.

This Forum is not simply another internal project. It is rather meant as a combination of several things: a collection of historic experiences, an answer to those who wonder what CyberArmy has in common with "Real Life", and a starting point for studies which may become interesting to outside organisations in the future.

?Leadership?, as well as ?management?, is a topic in many university courses today and a field of ongoing research. Many universities unite specialists from psychology, sociology and related fields in centres like the Leadership Centre at the University of Exeter, whose specific aim is to answer questions commonly faced in businesses today.

A current field of interest for example is CSCW ? Computer Supported Cooperative Work. What this term means is teams working together on a common goal using information technology distributed around the world. This may be a team of specialists discussing a specific issue online, or a automotive design team handing over ideas from one time zone to another to enable 24/7 development.

This field matches about 90% of what we have at CyberArmy (minus the paycheck at the end of the month), meaning that what our leaders learn at CyberArmy will most likely help them work in such a team in the future, just like what we find to be working at CyberArmy will most likely work for a business setup as well.

We are still at the beginning right now and have only reached the status of ?an collection of experiences? so far, but I hope I was able to outline my vision for future uses and developments of the Open Leadership Forum.

Access to this project is currently granted to Staff Members, active Kernels+, Brigade C/Os and X/Os, and each brigade?s toplevel C/Os and X/Os. Everyone with access therefore has experience in leadership issues, qualifying him or her to comment on such. Each member with access is also trusted within the whole CyberArmy community or at least his or her brigade, which is a requirement given the sometimes touchy issues being discussed.
