Staff Digest - June 2005

Category
CyberArmy
Summary
Hey Everyone! As we are sure you can tell, CyberArmy has quieted down for the summer while all us pasty-white computer geeks hit the beach and try to look normal (or not), and the same goes for the Administration forum! Sorry the Staff Digest isn't longer
Body
June 26, 2005 - New Forum Feature
Chawmp coded and implemented some enhanced logging features for forum administration. These changes had been on the table for quite some time and include improved logging of deletion and moving of posts. Now you can actually tell when your "funny joke" was removed, and why.

June 30, 2005 - Goodbye Inspectorgadget
I'm not sure how many people around here have known Kernel Inspectorgadget, but he's been around for some time - he has also said his goodbyes on a few separate occasions. Now, although he claims that CyberArmy has "taught me how to care - to not be apathetic and to actually try" he has decided that he "can't put in enough time to be a part of it anymore at the moment". We would like to thank Inspectorgadget for his input and wish him all the best into the future.

July 2, 2005 - Goodbye Asmodai
Asmodai has elected to retire from CyberArmy and Staff. Thank you for many contributions here, some of which included giving your incredible expertise with *nix issues, and your interview with PCPro on behalf of CyberArmy. From all of your friends in CyberArmy, you will be missed.

July 3, 2005 - Learn your CAIRC manners
A rather annoying member decided that they would start causing trouble within minutes of returning from a 30 day ban on CyberArmy's IRC network. After seeing the evidence (channel logs) it didn't take long for our friendly neighbourhood IRCops to remedy the situation with another 30 day ban. Please remember to have respect for others online - we are all CyberArmy "netizens" together.

July 7, 2005 - Tragedy in London
CyberArmy remembers the tragedy in London, England with the black flag banner posted to the header of all CyberArmy pages. In the future a better explanation will be posted in the forums in regard to the reason for the use of the black flag, but on this occasion it was assumed that we all knew what we were mourning. Our hearts go out to those that have lost their lives or their loved ones. Events such as that should serve as a reminder to us all to cherish every moment.

July 11, 2005 - Staff Digest Time
The job of the Staff/Administrative Digest has been delegated to members of the non-staff Ker+ Administration Forum.

July 11, 2005 - Staff meeting
For the first time in a few months, CyberArmy Staff has held a meeting to discuss some pressing issues. At the forefront of the agenda was the daily spam on all our public forums (and how to combat it), integrating CSS into the CyberArmy site, lack of progress in the brigades, Forum Guidelines, and Staff communication.

July 13, 2005 - Congratulations to Phase 2 Staff trainees!
LtKers Anvar and Fu have been ushered through into the second phase of Staff training. Congratulations guys, do yourselves and your community proud!

July 16, 2005 - Staff meeting
Staff will attempt to have a meeting once a week to try to get things in CyberArmy progressing along the right track. On the agenda at this meeting was a return to the forum guidelines, X/O grooming, C/Os being more prepared by announcing LOAs and having replacements in place, and finally, the extension of brigade reports to the 5th to allow for the month to finish (they were previously due immediately on the 1st).

July 17, 2005 - Congratulations to CyberArmy!
We received an email from Project Honeypot -- Our CyberArmy.net HoneyPot successfully identified a previously unknown email harvester. This harvester has been caught and CyberArmy.net looks forward to the next time we can help out Project HoneyPot and make the internet a little better. For more information on Project HoneyPot please visit their official website at http://www.projecthoneypot.org.

That?s it for this edition. Have a great summer and we shall see you in the next edition of the Staff Digest. Always remember that the success of any CyberArmy project hinges on your motivation and contribution. Thank you all for reading.

Ed - Thanks to SamSpade, adtrace and craytonic for their input in creation of this month's CyberArmy Staff Digest.
