The CAU Testing Center| Category | | | Summary | | The Testing Center is an institution of CAU, alongside Class Delivery and the Knowledge-Bank. This project was started late 2001, undergoing a few releases and ups and downs since then. The engine (or better the backend of the Testing Center) underwent ma |
| | Body | The main goal of this project is to provide testing material for every tutorial and class contained on the CAUniversity.org site. By doing so, visitors may test how well they have absorbed the covered knowledge from a particular class they have taken part in, or a tutorial they have read. Each test is built from a database of 25 or more questions and is randomly generated to consist of 25 multiple choice questions. Each question has 5 possible answers, though 50-50 questions are an exception to this rule as they only have 'yes' or 'no' as a possible answer.
The potential of this project is not to be undermined at all. However, it requires some discipline from the user-side to be self-driven in going the extra step to test what knowledge has been absorbed from their readings afterwards. This way they can be assured that nothing important is being missed or easily forgotten afterwards.
Despite the fact CAU that disallows it, it is possible that a user could "cheat" and answer questions by having the tutorial in front of him. However, Socrat's php wizardry has has coded in two security features to discourage this. First is a 30-second time restriction on each question, and second is a monitoring pop-up that records--amongst other user actions--switching of windows. Both combine to make cheating extremely difficult and you are best to simply know the subject matter before attempting a test.
The planned Certifications program is a similar project to the Testing Center. It's main goal is to train and test members on a complete ?package? of knowledge consisting of a myriad of subjects which CAU staff believe relates together. More information on this can be found here.
The current commanding officer in charge of the Testing Center is Lt Icydemon. More information on the Testing Center can be found here. |
