The history of CAU from Academy to University

Category
CyberArmy
Summary
The history and the reasoning behind CAU's move from the Academy to the University was due to an evolution of purpose and structure of the organization.
Body
When the brigade was conceived, its main focus?arguably its sole focus--was to educate the members of CyberArmy and it was intended to resemble a military academy where you would attend to receive the necessary training to then work in the "army." The projects and groups of CAU were tailored very specifically around this and the training provided narrowly surrounded "hacker" issues, with the first classes being centered on exploits and security.

As the focus of the Academy expanded into more general IT fields (programming languages, scripting) and beyond (we?ve hosted classes on Public Relations, Human Resources, Writing and Editing). Equally significant, was the opening up of our resources to the entire internet community. A combination of the two ultimately resulted in a move away from the structure and purpose of a military academy into what would more closely resemble a public institution. As a result, SHEPHERD made the logical move to change the military "CyberArmy Academy" into today?s "CyberArmy University."
